From professional playing to teacher, coach, and author
Coaching is also not about what you teach and says as it is about how you made your students feel. Regardless of how "clever" your coaching was; if they walk away with a feeling of inspiration, you succeeded as a coach. On the flip side, You can be the best coach in the world; if your student walks away with a feeling of unworthiness, you failed as a coach.
SURINA DE BEER RESUME
I want to express my tennis story my dreams and the lack of tools I had for success and in which I realized later I needed. However, what it now meant after my career in the form of a gift in experience which turned into self-obtained wisdom.
Aimed at those I touch in my life through tennis or just life, who on some level can relate.
I was born and raised in South Africa. I have been living in the San Francisco Bay Area of almost 12 years. Before I came to the USA, I lived in the United Kingdom for five years.
Tennis is in my blood. I started playing tennis at a, turned Pro at age 18. I had an on and off Profesional Playing career and retire in 2011. I have been teaching tennis for more than 14 years.
AS TENNIS COACH
My intention and goal is to help anyone I teach to become the best version of their tennis self
Most of my clients are Junior High Performance ages 7-12yrs, which has become a specialty and area of focus for me. Though, I work with all levels and ages, my youngest 7 and my oldest 70!
Most of them are playing competitive tournaments. 2of my Students went to National Little Mo’s u/10
6 Students have competed in Regional Little Mo, with results, finalists, semi finalists and winners in both tournaments.
My Highest Ranked Student is 25 in Nor Cal and achieved that in less then a year from starting to play tournaments.
My goal for every student is to reach the best level for themselves.
While in London, I got to travel with a few junior players to Junior ITF TOURNAMENTS, including current TOP 10 WTA player, Johanna Konta to her first ITF tournaments.
I had not much to do with her development as a player, but I had to mentor her through getting started with her first ITF tournaments.
“The tougher the challenge is, the more you have to grow from,” said Surina de Beer, a former South African professional who reached the world’s top 120 and helped Konta claim her first junior title in 2007. “Maybe Johanna needed to go through all this stuff to build the muscle that makes you a success.
“A lot of players receive a lot of support, but then life is too easy, and you don’t build that competitive muscle.”
